He had lived for many years in Cheshire, CT, before moving to Wallingford, CT.

He served in US Navy as a medical corpsman in World War II from 8/1943 to 5/1946 and was assigned to the Naval Receiving Station ST Louis, MO; Naval Training Station Farragut, ID; Hospital Corpsman School Farragut, ID; Naval Hospital Philadelphia, PA; Naval Receiving Station Newport, RI; and the USS Missouri BB-63. He had been working on a book that described his experiences while he served on the battleship USS Missouri, where he witnessed the signing ceremony of the peace treaty that ended WWII. His military awards and decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon; American Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars; and the WWII Victory Medal. He graduated from St Louis University in 1950. He worked for Sero Shirts as a manufacturer's representative, first in Chicago and then throughout New England. He was a member of St Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire, CT, where for a time he served as a Eucharistic Minister.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Phillips Bollinger. He was survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at St Thomas Becket Church, Cheshire, CT. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery.
