Elene Dyer Hale Dies; Longtime Dade Teacher

Chattanooga Times Free Press (TN) - Thursday, January 25, 1996

TRENTON, Ga. -- Elene Dyer Hale, who touched many lives through more than 30 years of teaching kindergarten and preschool in the Dade County School System, died at her Trenton home Friday night, Jan. 19, 1996. She was 69. Mrs. Hale also taught Sunday school for more than 50 years at Trenton United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was recently honored as "Friday's Hero" on NewsChannel 9 and was featured on Marcia Kling's "What's Happening" TV program. She was an active member of the Dade San Lo Val Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, Dade Chapter 476 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was involved in the Dade Days celebration for many years. Mrs. Hale served on the Pre-K Coordinating Council for the Dade County School System. She was one of the first Girl Scout leaders and was a registered Girl Scout for 33 years. She was preceded in death by her father, A.L. Dyer. Survivors include her husband, Jim A. Hale, Trenton, Ga.; daughter, Jane Whatley, East Ridge; mother, Jimmylu Dyer; sister, Rose Moore; and brother, Aubrey "Bo" Dyer, all of Trenton; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, Trenton, with the Rev. George Dunbar and the Rev. Walter Weikel officiating. Burial will be in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Trenton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6, Trenton, Ga. 30752.
