She was born on April 22, 1931, in Selma, Alabama, and shortly afterward began her life in Trenton. Her parents were Alford Leon and Jimmylu Mason Dyer.

Rose was a faithful and beloved lifelong member of Trenton United Methodist Church, where she served actively in various positions, including youth leader, Sunday School teacher, choir director, Bible school worker, administrative board member and annual conference delegate, United Methodist Women, and nursery coordinator.

She was actively involved in the founding of Girl Scouts in Dade County.
She served on the Dade County Library Board, and was a long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for educators.

Rose graduated from Dade County High School, where she played basketball, and was valedictorian of her class. She attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, and received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Chattanooga (UTC) in 1952, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She taught at Dalton City Schools; Lookout Mountain Elementary School; Munich, Germany American Schools in Munich, Germany; Walker County Schools; and Dade County Schools, for a total of 39 years. She taught music and various classroom levels, but spent most of her teaching years as a media specialist at Trenton Elementary School.

After their marriage in 1956, Rose and husband Lamar enjoyed the years they spent together in Munich, Germany, where they had many exciting life experiences, and visited several countries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Michael Kinney, sister and brother-in-law Elene and Jim Hale, brother and sister-in-law Aubrey "Bo" and Ellen Dyer, brothers-in-law Harry "Bud" Moore and Donald "Dude" Moore, and niece Cindy Dyer.
