Miss Celia Dunphy, 66, member of one of the community's early families, died Friday in Kansas City, Mo. Miss Dunphy had been critically ill since Christmas. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Dunphy, early residents of Grand Island. She was born here and received her elementary education here. The family moved to St. Joseph, Mo., when she was a young woman and there she completed her education. Several years ago Miss Dunphy entered the employment of the John Taylor & company at Kansas City and she served as a buyer for the firm until the time of her illness. She had been a life-long member of the Catholic church.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Gasaway, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, Edward Dunphy, Wood River; and by several nieces and nephews. Her parents; two brothers, James and William Dunphy; and three sisters, Mrs. Stacia Kearney, Mrs. Grace Cook, and Mrs. Alice Stephens, preceded her in death. A requiem mass was offered in her parish church at Kansas City this morning. The body will arrive here tomorrow morning for the final services. Burial will be in the Grand Island cemetery at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning. The Livingston-Sondermann funeral home is in charge of arrangements here.
