Lucy Evelyn Burks Hood, 90, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. Born on December 3, 1926 in Nettleton, MS, she was a daughter of the late John Henry and Claracy Howell Burks.

Lucy graduated from Smithville High School in 1943. She was a member of Meadowood Baptist Church. She was a caregiver for her mother and later went to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked well into her 70's and loved taking care of her patients.

She loved to travel to different places and visiting with all of her family. When she was able, she loved to go out to eat with Mrs. Francis Presley and Mrs. Ruth Stanford. After moving to River Place, she loved to watch Wheel of Fortune with her roommates.

Being the caretaker that she was, she was thrilled to be able to say that at the age of 42, she went back to school and received her LPN license. All who knew Mrs. Lucy will remember her fondly.

She is survived by her nieces that she felt were like daughters to her; Brenda Peden (CB), Amory and Delores Basham (Gary), Amory; step-daughter, Emily Morris (Bill); step-son, Andy Hood (Barbara); 21 nieces and nephews.
