Obituary from the Clarksburg Exponent Telegram Thursday September 21, 2017:
Haydie Almeta Pumphrey, 100, of Weston, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center following a long courageous life. She was born in Goosepen in Lewis County on Jan. 27, 1917, daughter of the late Claude Wilt and Laura (Brewer) Wilt. On Oct. 29, 1932, she married William "Bill" Pumphrey, who preceded her in death on July 21, 1973. Almeta was blessed with seven children: five daughters, Ruby Elizabeth Christy and JoAnn Reed, both of Weston, Evelyn Titus and husband Jim of Lost Creek, Judith Kay Gillespie (deceased) and Janie Pumphrey of Weston; two sons, William E. Pumphrey of Warren, OH, and Robert Lee Pumphrey and wife Pat of Cortland, OH; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 20 1/2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition, Almeta was preceded in death by five brothers, Opie Wilt, Ed Wilt, Emery Wilt, Claude Wilt, Jr., and Robert Wilt and four sisters, Leota Sandy, Elizabeth Waugh, Naomi Ramsey and Ruby Flint. Almeta will be remembered as the lady with white hair that worked at Lovett’s Drive-In with 33 years of service. Almeta was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was blessed with several sets of five generations in her family. In her 100 years of life, Almeta saw more changes in this world than we can even imagine. Her greatest joy and her life was about her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She and her husband Bill started a family and created a legacy that will last for many years to come. Almeta, or Grandma as most knew her, will be missed by many. Family and friends will be received at the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home, 730 N. Main Avenue, Weston on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Hardman-Paletti Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow services in the Finster Chapel Cemetery on Goosepen Road in Lewis County.
