A resident of Innis, he died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at his home. He was 80. Visiting at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Innis, from 10 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, conducted by the Rev. Howard Bushey. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by his wife, Mona Armes Mathis; daughters, Linda Schultz, Lakewood, Calif., Nancy White, Phoenix, and Annette Norton Venites, Seligman, Ariz.; a stepson, John P.M. Smith, Jonesboro, Ark.; a sister, Jan Heard, Plainview, Texas; and a brother, Warren Mathis, Lockey, Texas. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Agnes Warren Mathis; a brother, Leo Mathis; and a sister, Glenna Mae Davis. Pallbearers will be Larry Stuard, Gary Stuard, Clayton Humphreys, Jacque Lacour, Joseph Landry and John P.M. Smith. Honorary pallbearers are James Ewing, Al Ewing and Earl Harville.
