Danville – Jerry J. Prideaux, 83, of Danville passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2017 at 6:11 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Jerry was born in Parsons, KS to Glen Otho and Frances (Watts) Prideaux on December 20, 1933. He married Mary Margaret Haley on October 9, 1965 in Fort Wayne, IN, she survives of Danville.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; one son, James (Rebecca) Prideaux of Carbondale; one daughter, Ann Renee Miller of Danville; three grandchildren, Lee Miller of Danville; Madeline Prideaux and Joseph Prideaux both of Carbondale.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry grew up in Missouri and moved to Denison, TX when he was 9 years old.
He graduated from Denison High School and attended North Texas State University for one year. He transferred to the University of Texas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1956 and was commission as a Second Lt. in The United States Air Force. He worked for General Electric for 6 months and then reported for Active Duty in The United States Air Force. After rejoining General Electric, he enlisted in the Indiana Air National Guard. He worked for General Electric for 31 years in the lighting division as a Product Manager and later at Valmont. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon, elder, church treasurer and on the finance committee. For the past 3 years he has been the President of the Kiwanians Golden K Club. Jerry was on the board at CRIS for many years and served on the East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging board for 8 years, two as President of the board. He was a Cub Scout leader in Charlotte, North Carolina and served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Danville. He was a tutor at DACC, a Rural Transportation Representative for Vermilion County, volunteered as a mentor for 12 years with the Splash Program at the YMCA for District 118, was a member of the American Legion Post 210, and a pleasant volunteer for the Douglas Discovery Garden. Most of all Jerry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 23, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 100 North Franklin Street, Danville, IL 61832. Reverend Ann Schwartz will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 North Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61834. Burial will be at a later date at Danville National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or C.R.I.S.
