He was born Sept. 29, 1899, in Marathon County, the son of Carl and Amelia Zuehlke Achterberg. He married Lucinda Schmude Jan. 27, 1922, in Borth.

Mr. Achterberg was a Pickett area resident for 50 years and had been a dairy farmer. He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon, and Pickett Senior Center.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Lyle, Route 2, Berlin; two daughters, Mrs. Victor (Eunice) Haase, Oshkosh, and Mrs. Edwin (Lucile) Stahmann, Rosendale; three brothers, Albert, Winneconne, William, Merrill, and Paul, Townsend; nine grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immanuel United Methodist Church, Ripon, with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. Entombment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, Ripon.
