Our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Ervin George Heslop, passed peacefully into eternity on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his home.

He was born July 31, 1921 in Ogden, Utah to William Henry Heslop and Icivinda Taylor. He was raised in Plain City, Utah, graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber College until shortly before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a member of the 360th Service Squadron in World War II serving for three years in North Africa, the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia and Italy. He worked at Hill Air Force Base upon his return to civilian life, retiring in 1976.

On June 19, 1946, he married Hazel Fowers Moore in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. A few years later they bought the farm next to Hazel’s family in Hooper, Utah where they worked hard together raising their children and where they lived the rest of their lives.

Ervin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various positions in the church throughout his life. The most memorable calling for him was his years as Stake Clerk. He and Hazel served together as ordinance workers for many years in the Ogden Temple before and after completing a full-time mission as family history missionaries in the England Birmingham Mission.

His life of devotion to and love for Hazel and his Christ-like attributes of kindness, gentleness, patience and humility is a wonderful example for his family.

Ervin’s posterity includes six children, 34 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Shanna (Don) Thurman, of Layton; Mary (Mike) Nay, of Hooper; Clair (Joan) Heslop, of Centerville; Melanie (David) Miller, of Kaysville; Jan (Kim) Cragun, of Ephraim; and Vinda (Mark) Preslar, of Porterville; sister Dorene (Kent) Salmond and brother Carlos (Mary Lou) Heslop.

He is preceded in death by his wife Hazel, parents, brothers Lamont, Weldon, Moylen and sister June Cobabe, granddaughter Leah Kae Thurman, great grandson Karson Riggs and great granddaughter Cloee Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 23rd at the Hooper 3rd Ward Chapel, 5601 South 6100 West. The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Internment, Hooper Cemetery.
