William decided to answer the call of Stephen F. Austin and bring settlers to Texas. He formed a wagon train to bring settlers to Texas from Indiana. The journey from Indiana to Texas took 2 years. One of his granddaughters, Stella (Dendy) Ragsdale, writes of the adventure in her story “Our Heritage” found online. On the wagon train was the family of Frances B. Wood.
