Following an intensive investigation lead by Sheriff William L. Harrison, of Baldwin County the grand jury indicted Robert R. Gunnells Wednesday afternoon for the murder of his wife, Mrs. Runnette Simmerson Gunnells.

Mrs. Gunnells, 26 year old member of a prominent Baldwin county family died from bullet wounds, April 24. No inquest was held at the time of her death.

Sheriff Harrison said that his investigation revealed that no powder burns were on Mrs. Gunnells dress or body. Research by the Federal Bureau of investigation disclosed no blood on what Gunnells pointed out as the "death bullet" nor was there any evidence that the bullet had passed through a human body, according to Sheriff Harrison.

The course of the bullet through the body shows that it would have been impossible for Mrs. Gunnells to have fired the shot, Sheriff Harrison commented.

He pointed out that the bullet went in the breast, and came out of Mrs. Gunnells back at a downward angle.

The Sheriff also declared that Gunnels would inherit approximately $16,000 in cash and property from Mrs. Gunnells estate. There are numerous other factors involved in the case which I do not wish to disclose at this time, the officer added.

When arrested Wednesday afternoon, Gunnells denied the charge and emphasized his affection for Mrs. Gunnells, Sheriff Harrison said.

The trial of Gunnells is slated for the July term of Baldwin Superior Court, the criminal division of which will convene on Monday.
