In May of 1853, Orville, his parents, Henry and Laura Parks Barron, and his sisters migrated to Illinois. They settled on the east bank of Grays Lake. Orville enlisted as a private i Co. B, 96th Regiment of IL Infantry Volunteers, on August 9, 1862. He was promoted to corporal in Nashville TN in February 1863. He participated in all the battles of the Atlanta campaign with the exception of Lookout Mountain and Chicamauga. In Atlanta he had a gun shot out of his hand by a rebel bullet. From Atlanta he returned home for a 2-month furlough, then went to Chattanooga where he was detailed in the post office. He mustered out at Camp Harker near Nashville on June 10, 1865.
He married Delia Edwards of Avon Township, Lake Co. IL on December 30, 1866. The Barrons were early leaders of the Grayslake Congregational Church. Orville served on a committee for the Soldiers and Sailors reunion during the 1890's. He was one of the first trustees for the Village of Grayslake, elected in 1895.
Orville's second wife was Mrs. Eveline E. Gray (Wilbur J. ) Houghton.
When he retired from farming in 1902, he built the house at 52 Oak Street and Eva took in boarders.
