Al Highland went to be with the Lord on August 28, from complications of COPD.

Al was born in Weatherly, Pennsylvania, on June 15, 1931, to Albert George and Emily Clewell Highland. Al was the third of their four children and only son. When he was 2, his parents divorced and he was placed in the Lutheran Orphanage in Allentown, Pennsylvania. When he was 13 his father remarried and Al went to live with his father and step mother.

In 1948 Al enlisted in the Navy where he spent 8 years, and in 1956 he married Emma Louise Nauman and transferred his military career to the Air Force where he served for 12 additional years. Al retired from the Military in 1968, after 20 years of service and joined the Alameda County Water District opening and running Fremont's first soft water treatment plant, retiring from A.C.W.D. in 1993 after 25 years of service. When Al's wife was diagnosed with cancer, he loving and devotedly cared for her until her death in 1974.

In 1988 Al remarried to Priscilla Laursen, and they spent 29 family, loved filled years together.

Al is survived by his wife, Priscilla; his son, Ronald Highland and Wife,Sandy; son David Laursen and wife Thao; daughter, Judy Abraham and husband Michael; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Al is also survived by sisters;Joan Hillegass, Linda Bradley, brother, David Highland, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his first wife, his parents, two sisters, a daughter, Margie and a step son. Al's greatest joy was his family.

Services will be held Friday, September 8, at Lima Family Mortuary, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd., Fremont, with visitation 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm, and burial immediately following at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Breast Cancer Society or Fremont Community Church's Mission Possible Campaign.
