Thelma M. Abernathy Jordan
Thelma M. Jordan, 82, died May 7, 2003. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mt. Norway Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Washougal Sunday, May 17, at 11 a.m.
She was born Nov. 25, 1920, in San Luis Valley, Monte Vista, Colo. She attended high school in Monte Vista and graduated as the salutatorian. She married James R. Jordan in 1940, they moved to the Pacific Northwest and settled in the Orchards area. She worked in the Kaiser Naval Shipyards while her husband served in the Navy during WWII.
In 1952 the couple moved to Washougal where they raised their three daughters. In 1975 they moved to Boardman, Ore. They returned to Washougal in 1985 and stayed there until James died in 1994. After her husband's death Mrs. Jordan moved to Vancouver.
While living in Washougal Mrs. Jordan managed a veterinary clinic, was an active member of the Twin City Saddle Club, helped promote and bring in RCA Championship Rodeo to Washougal, and taught horsemanship to small children of school age.
Mrs. Jordan enjoyed her family, including numerous nieces and nephews, picnics, camping trips and photography. Cooking pies was her specialty.
She is survived by her daughters, Cloida Peyrollaz, Linda Wall, Donna Andrade; six grandchildren; three brothers, Ken and Truman Abernathy both of Washougal, Dale Abernathy of Camas and one sister, Violet Burdick of Vancouver.
Rememberances can be made to Alzheimer's Association in Vancouver. Interment will be at Washougal Cemetery. Arrangements wer made by Straub's Funeral Home in Camas.
