Mr. Robert Hood Oland, 80, formerly of Woodsboro, died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Northampton Manor Nursing Home, Frederick.
Born April 6, 1926, in Tuscarora, he was the son of the late Sharetts E. and Laura Dutrow Oland.

He was the husband of Marilyn McWhirter Oland, who predeceased him in 2000.

Mr. Oland was a 1944 graduate of Frederick High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II as a turret gunner in B-24s, seeing action in the Philippines. He was formerly employed at Fort Detrick in the Sanitation Department for 43 years, retiring in 1992. Bob was a member of Glenn W. Eyler Post American Legion of Woodsboro and the N.A.F.R.E. of Washington, D.C. He became a resident of Northampton Manor in 2002.

Surviving are brothers, Frederick Oland of Frederick, Richard Oland of Naples, Fla., and Kenneth Oland of Thurmont; sisters, Katrina Koontz and Parthenia Harp, both of Frederick; daughter, Susan Mathurin of Frederick; son, Robert E. Oland of Frederick; step-daughter, Melanie L. Appling and husband Thomas of Alexandria, Va.; step-son, Duane S. Viazanko and wife Amy of Towson; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Strevig, April Childs and Erik and Roby Oland; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Stephen Oland, in 1996; brothers, Sharetts, David and Raymond Oland; and a sister, Elizabeth Oland.
