A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, N.C., officiated by Dennis Davis.
Mr. Oland was born August 18, 1928 in Frederick, son of the late Sharetts and Laura Oland. A resident of Beaufort County since 1985, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and later worked with AT&T in Winston-Salem until his retirement in 1984. On April 10, 1971, he was married to the former Vera Boyd, who survives.
Mr. Oland was a member of Everett's Church of Christ, Korean Veterans Chapter no.142, Telephone Pioneers of America and the Improved Order of Redman, Tau Tribe no.18, who will assist with graveside services.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Angela Winfree of Kernesville, N.C., Deborah Oland of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Lisa Oland of Yadkinville, N.C.; one son, Gregory Boyd of Archdale, N.C.; four brothers, Fred Oland and Robert Oland, both of Frederick, Richard Oland of Naples, Fla. and Kenneth Oland of Thurmont; three sisters, Elizabeth Oland and Katrina Koontz, both of Frederick, and Patsy Harp of Frederick; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Two sons, Raymond Sharetts Oland and Richard Dutrow Oland, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Saturday Night Jamboree, c/o Carrie Gurganus, 301 East 13th Street, Washington, NC 27889, or to the charity of one's choice.
