Leo Gionfriddo, 81, Dysart, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Dysart, son of the late Paul Sr. and Rose (Rometto) Gionfriddo. On Nov. 17, 1967, he married Floretta “Flo” Bruce in Virginia.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years; a son, David of Dysart; three grandchildren: Jennifer (Gary) Hartman, Travis Gionfriddo and Amanda Bruce; two great-granddaughters: Adabelle and Delilah Gionfriddo; a sister, Joan (Edmund) Rupnick of Folsom; a sister-in-law, Sue Gionfriddo in California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three daughters: Lori Gionfriddo, Rose Christy and Denise Halerz; a grandson, Mark Eger; a daughter-in-law, Roxanne Gionfriddo; six brothers: John, Joseph, Paul Jr., Carmen, James and Al; and four sisters: Josephine “Dolly” Tutko, Mary DeMark, Betty Tutko and Carmella Gionfriddo.
Leo worked as a miner operator for Beth Energy Mine 33, Ebensburg, for more than 20 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and, in his younger days, he enjoyed playing and coaching softball for the Ashville VFW. He and was a member of the UMWA and a former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville.
Friends will be received from 2 until the 6 p.m. funeral service, Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, the Rev. Robert Reese officiating.
Committal will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville.
