Phoebe was born in Charlestown, Ohio on January 12, 1922 to parents Charles E. and Alice (Richards) Griffith. Phoebe was one of 14 children. She was retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital where she had worked in dietary. Phoebe then worked at Wal-Mart in the garden center. She loved tending her gardens, growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. Her doors were always open to anybody at any time. Phoebe loved watching her boys participate in sports and as a women of faith she taught for 50 years at the Child Evangelism Fellowship and attended Crossroads Christian Missionary Alliance in Shalersville. Being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother were most important to her and Phoebe lived her life with strength and dignity.
Phoebe is survived by her children: Pam Genos, Jackie (Bob) Cooper, Claudia (Dick) Thayer, Marsha (Brad) King, Butch (Dawn) Beetler, Sam (Bonnie) Beetler and Nathaniel “Frog” Beetler. She also leaves her 28 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Left also to cherish her memory are her sisters: Marcene Sorboro, Joanne Butz and many loving nieces and nephews.
Phoebe was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years and father of her children, Howard E. Beetler, 2nd husband Wyman “Tom” Swain, infant son Joel, son-in-law Pete, 2 grandchildren and 11 siblings.
Friends and loved ones will be received on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, from 10:00am until the 12:00pm funeral service officiated by Pastor Dave Oreskovic. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Park.
