Alexander (Alex), son of Ernst Stroeder and Catherine Eckenswiller, was born 23 November 1882 in Brant Township, Bruce, Ontario, Canada.

On 5 June 1906, Alex (age 23) married Ottillia (Tillie) Bruder (almost 18), daughter of Jacob Bruder and Catherine Schnurr, in Carrick Township, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. According to Tillie's 1936 obituary: "After their marriage they took up farming on the South Line of Brant, where they since resided. Seven children were born to this union, six girls and one boy, they youngest being eleven years old..." Their children were:

1) Antoinette Catherine, born 10 June 1908. Married William Olinsky.
2) Ernst Jacob, born 17 May 1910. Married Loretta Wand.
3) Rita Minna, born 18 May 1913. Married Leo Montag.
4) Doris Amelia, born 5 November 1917. Married Eugene Lane.
5) Helen Catherine, born 19 June 1920. Married Leo McIntee.
6) Marjorie, born 16 November 1921. Married Fred Isley.
7) Eleanor Virginia, born 1924. Married Clifford Isley.

After Tillie's death, Alex (age 55) married widow Mary (nee Zuber) Steinbach (age 61), daughter of Conrad Zuber and Barbara Schapp, on 14 July 1938 in Walkerton.

About 1948, Alex retired from farming. He and wife Mary moved to Walkerton at this time.

Alex died on 23 April 1961 in Walkerton. He was buried on 25 April 1961 at Walkerton Cemetery. His obituary , in part, reads: "Alexander Stroeder, 79, of Walkerton, died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eugene Lane, RR 2, Walkerton. A son of the late Ernest Stroeder of Walkerton and the former Catherine Eckensweiler, he was born in Brant Township, and farmed there until his retirement....He was predeceased by two wives, the former Tillie Bruder and the former Mary Zuber. He is survived by one son...six daughters...one brother, Noah...47 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Tanner and Pearson Funeral Home Walkerton. Requiem high mass will be solemnized Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart RC Church, Walkerton. Dean Charles Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in Walkerton Cemetery."
