OBITUARY: Vinc Alexander Takes His Life. At Franklin And His Wife Said To Be Dying of Cancer. Dead Man's Wife and Relatives Live in Columbus and He Was Formerly Employed Here - despondent and Drank Heavily

Vincent Alexander aged forty four years, who was employed at the Hayes Hotel at Franklin, committed suicide Friday morning by taking carbolic acid and his wife is said to be dying of cancer at her home on Union street in this city. Early Friday morning an effort was made to get Alexander by telephone from this city but when a messenger went to his room he asked him to say that he was not in town. Later when another employee of the Hayes hotel went to his room to ask him if he wanted anything to eat, he found him dead in bed.

Mrs Alexander, who formerly Mrs. Lulu Hull, widow of Newton Hull and a daughter of Mrs Amanda Lacy of Fifteenth street, moved here last August. She has two sisters here, Mrs. Ed Lambert and Mollie Lacy.

Mr. Alexander was employed as a bartender by T.E. Reidenbach when the latter was the manager of the Belvedere hotel here and he was employed as a bartender by E.P. Stader. It is said that worry over his wife's ill health and strong drink caused him to take his own life, yet he left no explanation of his rash act.

When seen at her home, this afternoon Mrs. Alexander said that she wished the public to know that her husband's unfortunate act was not the result of any family trouble but that on the contrary they had always gotten along nicely together and that he was always very good. She also said that she was not greatly surprised on hearing that her husband had taken his own life for he had often said that he would not permit himself to live to see her buried under the ground.
