ARMSTRONG ALEXANDER DEAD
Once One of the Leading Business Men of the County.

Armstrong Alexander, one of the oldest residents of Johnson county died at 12:30 o'clock Wednesday at his home in Trafalgar, aged seventy-five years.
For several years prior to 1870, Mr. Alexander was reputed to be the wealthiest man in the county, his wealth being variously estimated from $75,000 up. At one time he was engaged in the dry goods business with a large store where the block occupied by Dudley Peek now stands. He was associated with Wm. Wheat in the pork packing business for some time and owned the Clarendon hotel building and other city property and also possessed a number of valuable farms near this city. In 1870 he met with reverses which forced him to assign and he lost everything and shortly afterward moved to Trafalgar where he has since resided. His wife who is quite old survives.
