Shirley Ann Fitzgerald, 81, of Fairfax, formerly of Lucan, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Fairfax Community Nursing Home in Fairfax, Minnesota. Mass of Christian Burial held at Our Lady Of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Shirley Ann (Wolterman) Fitzgerald was born on November 23, 1935 in Fonda, Iowa to Frank and Theresa (Determan) Wolterman. She attended school at Our Lady Of Good Counsel in Fonda, Ia, St. Andrew’s Catholic School in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School. She then attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD where she obtained her teaching degree. She taught in Catholic schools in South Dakota, Robbinsdale, Bayfield, Marshall and Lucan where she retired from Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. Her pupils were her children.

On August 13, 1966, Shirley was united in marriage to John (Jack) Fitzgerald at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. They made their home in Bayfield, WI, Marshall, MN and Lucan, MN. Shirley was a member of Lucan’s American Legion and also served as an election judge. She was known as the little lady with the big voice performing with the Red Hat Ladies and Granny Readers. She also enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and reading novels and the Star Tribune. She became a resident of the Fairfax Community Nursing Home in 2011 where she received great care.

On August 20, 2017, Shirley passed away at the Fairfax Community Nursing Home at the age of 81.

She is survived by her siblings Gerald (Lorraine) Wolterman of Charles City, IA, Jeanette Krebs of Laurens, IA, Marilyn Wendinger of Fairfax, Maribeth (Lyle) U’Ren of Reno, NV and Joleen (Dave) U’Ren of Rushford; God children Kay Burkhardt and Marla Pilgrim; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, parents, and brothers and sisters-in-law Clarice (Jim) Murphy, Rosemary (Jim) Kappenman, Duane (Marie) Wolterman, Jack Krebs, Clarence Wendinger, Stanley Wolterman, Muriel Kammermeyer and God child Karen Kammermeyer.
