Monta Velate Kidman, 88, of Shelley, died August 10, 2017, surrounded by her family.

She was born at the family home in Shelley, Idaho, on October 20, 1928, to Leonard and Sarah Esther Christensen. Monta was the youngest of nine children.

She graduated from Shelley High School. Monta attended and graduated from Utah Agricultural College with a degree in elementary education. She taught grade school in Garland, Utah, where she met Verle A Kidman. They were married in Shelley on August 3, 1951, and sealed December 8, 1952, in the Logan Utah Temple. Verle and Monta moved to Shelley in 1956 where Verle taught school, coached and farmed. They were blessed with five children.

Monta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many ward and stake callings.

During the summer while attending college she started her first 4-H Club with nieces Sharon, Janet, and Marsha . Monta taught her own children and then grandchildren along with their friends. She judged many county and state fairs. Monta was inducted into the Idaho 4-H Hall of Fame. She retired after nearly 50 years of sewing, cooking and bug collecting with 4-H members.

Monta loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and collecting family history. Her "green thumb" produced many garden vegetables and raspberries alongside colorful flowers. She loved sharing her talents.

Monta enjoyed her family and spent hours watching them participate in music, dance and sporting events.

Survivors include sons Leslie (Patty) Kidman, Randy (Colleen) Kidman, Kevin (Janet) Kidman and daughter Kristine (Lee) Holm all of Shelley, 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a sister Dorothy Kotter of Woodville. She was preceded in death by husband Verle, daughter Ronda, and two great-granddaughters, five brothers: Wayne, Wesley, Dennis, Thomas and Neldon Christensen, and sisters Elnora Christensen and Oleva Martin.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 15 at 11 a.m. at the Shelley Fifth Ward building located at 513 S Park. Family will meet with friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 14, at Nalder Funeral Home 110 West Oak in Shelley and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, August 15 at the Shelley Fifth Ward. Interment will be at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
