Bessie Marie Mercer of Seymour, Missouri, passed away Wednesday August 9, 2017 in her home at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 8 days. She was the seventh of ten children, born April 1, 1918 in Sweden, Douglas County, Missouri to Thomas Black Rippee and Minnie Belle (Fleetwood) Rippee. Bessie graduated from beauty school and cut hair for 5 years and her friends hair after that. She then went to work and retired from Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas after 32 years of employment as a production specialist. She was baptized and was a member of Amaden Baptist Church and had attended Southeast Bible Church in Springfield and then Finley Bible Chapel with her daughter for many years. Bessie was first married to Champ Clark Cole in 1937 and later to King Robert Mercer in 1961. Bessie was the mother of three children and her hobbies included quilting and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons Lynn Raynes Cole and George Maburn Cole; 4 sisters, Sadie Wattenbarger, Goldie Ann Davis, Louvern Rippee and Ettia Miller; 5 brothers Jim (Bruton) Rippee, Burt Rippee, Columbus Franklin Rippee, Edd Rippee and Ezra (William or Bill) Rippee.

Bessie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda & Howard Wilkins of Seymour, MO; 2 granddaughters Tanda L. Patterson and husband James “Rick” of Seymour, MO; Terri C. Elliott of Melbourne, FL; a daughter-in-law Shirley Ann Cole; 3 grandsons Daron Wilkins and wife Kimberly of Seymour, MO; Randall C. Cole and wife Diane of Wichita, KS and Jeffrey Robert Cole, Lisa Dieken; 3 step grandchildren as well as 15 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren.
