He was born July 7, 1933 in Touristville, Kentucky. Red had made his home in Amherst for the last sixty-seven years.
He proudly served in the United States Army. Red was employed at Ford Motor Company in Lorain for thirty years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Church of The Open Door in Elyria and a founding member of Faith Baptist Church in Amherst. Red was employed and volunteered at the Amherst Historical Society until 2010. In his spare time, he loved gardening.
Survivors include his wife Olga Marie Branscum (nee: Tettaton); his son Timothy Branscum (Pamela) of Amherst; his daughter Lois Barber (Dennis) of Glendale, Arizona; his stepson Shane J. Cain (Josephine) of Indio, California; his grandchildren; DeNeen Becker, Daniel Barber, Jennifer Kennedy, Tyler Branscum, Elijah Branscum, Elijah Cain, Noah Cain, and Grace Cain; eight great grandchildren; his brother Milton Branscum (Pansey) of Salem, Indiana; his sisters Bonnie Brenner (Denis) of Lorain and Shirley Whittemore (Bill) of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of thirty years Hazel Marie Branscum (nee: New) in 1983; his brother Curtis Branscum; his sisters Lois Jean Branscum as a infant, Rosa Estean Burton, Mary Doris Adkins; and his parents Claude Edgar and Dova Marie Branscum (nee: Hammond).
Friends may call Friday, April 14, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Bob Wickens, of Church of The Open Door will officiate. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Amherst Historical Society; 113 South Lake Street, Amherst, OH 44001.
