Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Larry, of Newdale; sons: Jeff (Tracy) of Newdale and Brent (Lisa) of Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, whom she adored: Zach (Cori) of Cramerton, NC, Sam, US Army Ranger stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA, Maggie of Newdale and Brynlea of Ringgold; step-granddaughters: Brooke and Courtney Caldwell of Ringgold; sisters: Kathleen Allen and Martha (Eddie) Williams of Spruce Pine; brothers: Wayne (Wilma) of Spruce Pine and Harry (Jan) of Anderson, SC; sisters-in-law: Carolyn (Joe) Sims, Evelyn, Virginia, Evelyn and Carlene Hall; brothers-in-law: Bill Robinson and David (Mary Anne) Howell. Several nieces and nephews and countless friends also survive.
Mary Lou was a kind, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a former employee of Yancey County Schools who touched the lives of many children. She loved to laugh, and made others laugh as well. She loved cooking, flowers, decorating and Tar Heel basketball. Her bright smile and warm personality lit up whatever room she was in. Making her family and friends happy made her happy.
A Celebration of Life will take place Friday, August 11, 2017 in the Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church at 7:00 pm.
