Dau of Robert Oliver Atkins and Dora Alice Doak
m: Percy Earnest Ward, Dec. 20, 1908, Henry MO.
Four children: Alberta Lee, Don, Ray and Harold
Clinton Eye, Sep 1954 - "The entire communities of Blairstown, Norris and Chilhowee were bowed with grief when word was received September 10, 1954, of the passing at Menorah Hospital, Kansas City, of one of their most beloved and valued women, Mrs. Earnest Ward, lifelong resident of north Henry County. Mrs. Ward became unexpectedly ill and was rushed to the hospital Sept. 5 where, despite a valiant fight, the end came on the Friday following, leaving a sense of unutterable loss to the hundreds who knew, loved and had been blessed by her kindness. Funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church in Blairstown Sunday. The body was laid in the old Carpenter Cemetery. Edith May Atkins, daughter of R. O. and Dora Doak Atkins, was born Nov. 4, 1887, near Blairstown, where she was reared and educated. In early life, she joined the Presbyterian Church in which she was a diligent and consistent member to the end of her pilgrimage. Dec. 20, 1908, she became the wife of Earnest Ward and for 46 happy years they trod life's way together, meeting its problems with faith in each other and themselves, sharing its happiness with all about them, and serving as only consecrated Christians can influence and guide. To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Ward were given one daughter and three sons, all of whom grew up to cherish and call their mother blessed. They survive as follows, with her devoted husband: Mrs. Harmel Wehmeyer, Don, Ray, and Harold Ward; also seven grandchildren; three brothers, John, Jennings, and George Atkins, and two sisters, Mr. H. J. Salsbury, and Miss Mary Atkins."
