Howell Hopson Jordan, 89, a retired Army colonel, died Sunday, Oct. 23, while on vacation in Dublin, Ireland.

Col. Jordan was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He moved to Brevard County, Florida, 37 years ago from New York, after retiring from the Army.

He was a 1927 graduate of the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. During World War II, he served in a number of staff positions, culminating with the command of the 307th Infantry Regiment. Following the war, he was assigned to General Douglas MacArthur's staff in Tokyo, where he served in the intelligence unit, and later as assistant secretary to the general staff from 1946 to 1948. From 1951 to 1954, he was a member of the staff of Headquarters Allied Forces Southern Europe in Naples, Italy.

At the time of his retirement, he held the post of senior army adviser to the New York National Guard.

Survivors include his daughters, Susan and Gladys; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held in Fort Myer, Virginia. Burial followed at Arlington National Cemetery.
