Meriden Record Journal: Meriden: Veronica Rose Bonanzinga, 95, wife of the late Henry Bonanzinga, died suddenly on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Midstate Medical Center. Born in Meriden on July 23, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Caroline Zakrzewski. She was a lifelog resident of Meriden and was educated in the Meriden schools. Veronica (nickname Alice) was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, The Meriden Council of Catholic Women, and a supporter of the Special Olympics. She was employed by New Departure and later worked with her husband Henry in operating Bonanzinga's Bakery, originally located on Springdale Avenue before moving to South Meriden in the early 70's. Veronica's greatest joy was spending time with her family and spending summers near the ocean in Misquamicut, R.I. She was an extrordinary, devoted mother to her children and grandchildren and was truly adored by her family and everyone who knew her.
She leaves two daughters, Marcia DeMonte Pirone and Sandra Wright and her husband, Wayne: five sons, Anthony, Paul, Larry, Bart and Henry Bonanzinga, all of Meriden; five grandchildren, Thomas DeMonte III, of Meriden, Gina Barbetta and her husband, Vincent, of Wallingford, Darren Wright and his wife, Beth, of Southington, Renay and Wayne Wright, of Meriden; three great-grandchildren, Thomas DeMonte IV, of Meriden, Alicia Barbetta, of Wallingford, and Cassondra Wright of Southington. She is also survived by several nieces nd nephews; and many wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin Zakrzewski and Raymond Zakrzewski; and five sisters, Helen Quigley, Antoinette Zakrzewski, Genevieve Zakrzewski, Mary Martancik, and Marcella Regnier. "Auntie Alice" was the last of her siblings to pass away.
The family would like to acknowledge the special care given to her by her beloved doctor, Rober Elwell and nurse, Roberta of Wallingford.
The funeral will be held on Friday, Aug 4, at 10:30 a.m. from the John J Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden and 11 a.m. at Our Lay Queen of Angels Parish, Mt. Carmel Campus, for a Mass of Christian burial. Burial will be in Sared Heart Cemetery.
