Miss Julie Elizabeth Donegan died Sunday morning, January 8, 1905, at about 5 o'clock, at the parish house in this city. Miss Donegan was sick just a week with her fatal illness, although she had been in very poor health for over two months. She was brought to this city Tuesday and had the attention of both physicians of this city. She had very few conscious moments yet she seemed at all times to realize her condition and pitied her father for the worry she was causing him. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the house under the direction of Rodney R. Herndon, undertaker. The remains were buried by the side of her mother in the Nevada cemetery. She leaves to mourn her taking away her father, John Donegan, three sisters, Mrs. R. N. Funk, Misses Agnes and Mollie Donegan, and a brother, John C. Donegan.

Julia Elizabeth Donegan was the second daughter of John Donegan. She was born in Nevada, Mont., December 23, 1874. Her mother died January 13, 1883. She attended the common schools of the county and afterward the St. Vincent academy at Helena, the Twin Bridges normal school, and completed her education by attending the State Normal at Dillon. She began teaching school at the age of 16, her first school being in her home district which was always at her disposal. She was a successful teacher. She taught at the following places: Silver Star, Melrose, Ledford Creek, Virginia City, Parrott and Butte. She had been in Butte a year and a half and her work was very satisfactory. She was elected county superintendent of schools of Madison county November 4, 1900, and served one term in that capacity. She made a most excellent official and did much to improve the condition of the country schools.

Miss Donegan was a splendid young woman of excellent character - so womanly, so gracious, loyal and lovely in every way: a nature so sunny and affectionate that one was made better by coming in contact with her. She was a devoted Christian, being a member of the Catholic church in which she took great interest. She endeared herself to those who knew her by her kind disposition, her charity toward the faults of others, and for her faithfulness to her friends. The family has the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in this their hour of great sorrow.
