He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Muriel Cochran Speights; their sons, David Ellis “Des” Speights, Jr. and wife Donna, Donald Eugene Speights and wife Jill, and Dane Erwin Speights; four grandchildren, David Easton Speights and wife Brittany, Danielle, Max and Jack Speights; sisters, Clara Easterly and husband Arno, Shirley Ann Delaughter and husband Calvin, Linda Gayle Lott and husband Gary, Maudie Stevenson, Tootie Day and Beth Swanson and husband Terry; and brothers, Robert Earl Speights, Earnest Leslie Speights and wife Katie, Charles Lee Speights and wife Lanell, and Jessie Roy Speights and wife Ollie.
Preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Earl Speights; great grandson, Rhett Wimberley; and parents, Winfred Shirley and Velma Earleene Ulmer Speights.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from Port Allen High School in 1960.
Visitation will be at Sharon Baptist Church, Port Allen on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 8:30am until religious services at 10am, conducted by Pastor Tom Shepard. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nathan, Marshall, David Easton, Max and Jack Speights and Jamie Ashford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert, Leslie, Joe and Charles Speights, and Jessie Ulmer.
