WWII VETERAN

BAIRD, JOSEPH K. JR., 83, of Louisville, passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 in the Hosparus Unit at Norton Pavilion Hospital.

He was a retired maintenance worker of 33 years with Southern Gravure. He was a member of the American Legion Dixie Post 220 and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 681. He also served in the Navy for 3 years during World War II. He participated in transporting troops to the beach on D-Day. He was a Christian by faith and a close friend of Iroquois Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph K. and Adelaide Baird Sr; and his brothers, Donald and Robert Baird.

He is survived by his loving wife, his two children, four grandchildren, a brother, two sisters, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at J. E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Dr., with cremation to follow. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Sunday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hosparus.
