Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 26. 2017 at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson, Illinois. Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m.Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Stewardson, Illinois, with Pastor David Ducommon and Pastor Steve Harder officiating. Burial will take place at Ash Grove Cemetery in rural Windsor. Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson, Illinois, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Stewardson United Methodist Women or the Stewardson United Methodist Church.
Fern was born March 26, 1926, in Moultrie County, the daughter of Arnold D. and Bell (Hollenbeck) Buckley. Her Mother, Bell, passed away in 1930 and her father married Daisy Seeley in 1932. On November 16, 1944, Fern married Shelby R. Thompson and he preceded her in death in September of 1994.
She was a member of Stewardson United Methodist Church where she was a janitor for many years. She enjoyed making quilts for the Pre-K students, was a member of the United Methodist Women, Senior Citizens Group and the Shelby County Home Extension. Fern was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini Basketball team.
Surviving are her daughters: Betty (Clem) Kaufman of Effingham, Illinois; and Elda (Dean) Martin of Neoga, Illinois; son, Lyle (Dinda) Thompson of Elwood, Indiana; grandchildren: Melissa (Brandon) Correll and B.J. (Taryn) Kaufman both of Shumway, Illinois; Kathy Beals of Neoga, Illinois; Kevin (Melissa) Thompson of Arizona; Adinda (Justin) Webster of Tipton, IN; step-grandson, Donnie Coyle of Indiana; seven great- grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; stepmother; husband, Shelby R; son, Arnold “Arnie” Thompson; brothers: Foster Buckley and James Buckley; stepsister, Hollice Yunker and stepbrother Clifford Seeley.
