VERNELLE AMASON

Vernelle Amason, 92, homemaker, died Tuesday, April 27 of heart failure at Magee General Hospital. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

Services were held Thursday, April 29, at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Magee with burial in Sharon Cemetery. Mims Mitchell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews; granddaughter, Beverly Wood of Mize; grandson, James Paul McMillian of Mize; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Amason.

MAGEE - Vernelle Amason, 92, a homemaker, died of heart failure Tuesday in Magee General Hospital.

Services are 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church with burial in Sharon Cemetery. Mims Mitchell Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Amason was a Smith County native. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of Clarence Amason.

Survivors include: granddaughter, Beverly Wood of Mize; grandson, James Paul McMillian of Mize; and three great-grandchildren.

In the obituary of her daughter, Johnnie Mae her name is spelled Vermelle. In the SS Application and Claims Index for step-son, Hardy Dallas Amason, name is spelled Vernell. 1910 and 1940 census name spelled more like Vermelle but transcribed as Vernelle. 1920 and 1930 census name is spelled Vermell. Various public records also listed her name as Vermelle.
