Services for G.W. Vernon were held in the First Baptist Church in Plainview with burial in the Happy Cemetery in the family plot. He came to Texas as a young man and farmed for more than 50 years in West Texas, the Panhandle, and Plains counties. He retired several years ago. Long active in the Baptist Church, he was closely associated with expanding the Plainview Baptist Church. He was instrumental in providing the site for the present education building and chapel where the funeral was held. He served on the board of deacons and as an usher for a number of years. He lived in Wise County and Young County until 1926 when he moved to Randall County from Olney where he had lived for 20 years. He lived on a farm near Happy u until 1935 when he moved to Hale County, to farm in the Plainview area until his retirement. He moved to Amarillo in 1951 and lived two miles west of Amarillo. He was a member of the Amarillo First Baptist Church. He married Della Odom in Wise County. She preceded hin in death. In 1933, he married Mabel Howell of Amarillo. Survived by his wife; twin sons - G.G. Vernon and R.C. Vernon; one sister - Sallie Burton; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.
