WEST HAVEN – Pearl DeFriez Smith, 87, passed away Friday, July 14, 2017 of natural causes incident to her age.

She was born October 2, 1929 in Castle Dale, Utah, a daughter of Joseph Dillard and Delilah Foote DeFriez.

She married Ellis Payne Smith on March 17, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married 54 years. He died May 5, 2002.

Pearl grew up in South Ogden and attended Weber County Schools.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She blessed many lives as she served faithfully in various church callings.

Pearl loved reading. She was always pleased when her children gave her a good LDS book. Her library was full of biographies, mainly of church leaders or our founding fathers. She enjoyed a good religious or political discussion.

Surviving are her three daughters and one son, Julene (Dennis) Jacobsen, Perry, UT; Janet (Elvan) Roberts, Clinton, UT; Sharla (Larry) Dawson, West Haven, UT; Melven (Kathy) Smith, Layton, UT; 24 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Ruben (Bonnie) DeFriez, West Jordan, UT.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S., Roy, UT. Family and friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
