Second child of Thomas Quirk and Catherine Donahue, he was born in Ashland, PA. and baptized at St. Joseph's Church in Ashland, PA as THOMAS EDWARD.

On September 2, 1927 he married Margaret Byrne. She died June 4, 1960.

He died at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital after a long and distinguished military career.

Uncle Eddie's Service to America:

1st enlistment was February 6, 1905 through February 3, 1909 as a Private. He served aboard the USS Rhode Island February 18, 1906 thru July 4, 1908.

2nd enlistment ~ April 3, 1909 thru April 7, 1913.

On April 29, 1909 he received the Good Conduct Medal for his 1st enlistment.

On April 23, 1911, he was promoted to Corporal

on August 24, 1912, he was promoted to Sergeant and served aboard the USS Prairie

NOTES:

Edwin's "military escapades" were written about in the stage play "WHAT PRICE GLORY" in 1924 where he is referred to as SGT. QUIRT. The play was then re-written as a silent movie in 1927 where he was referred to as SGT. QUIRK and a re-make of this movie was made in 1950.

His brother, Leo, who died in 1956, is also buried here at Beverly ~ Memorial #18250872.

His brother, James, who died in 1974, is buried in Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill ~ Memorial #17960441

Another brother, John, died July 18, 1899 in Ashland, PA

His sister, Mary Josephine Miller died April 30, 1970 and was buried privately.

Another sister, Anna Marie Butler, died July 11, 1977 and was buried from Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Broomall, PA
