James was born in Girardville, PA, 5th child of Thomas Quirk (born June 21, 1847 Isle of Man) and Catherine Donahue (born August 25, 1850 in Pottsville, PA) who were married November 24, 1878 in St. Joseph's Church in Ashland, PA

He married Agnes Gertrude McCormick (born in Brooklyn, NY, May 21, 1895) on July 10, 1918 at the Church of St. Ann on Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia and together they had 5 children: Marie Catherine, Agnes Elizabeth (Betty), William Francis, James Charles, Jr. and Margaret

Pre-deceased in 1929 by his youngest child, Margaret, who died at the age of 2 months and is buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham with her maternal grandparents, Andrew & Mary McCormick.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Agnes (nee McCormick), his children, Marie Costello (Reds), Betty Feasler, William (Elaine) and James as well as 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren

James was buried here at Calvary Cemetery from St. John's Church in Collingswood on April 16, 1974.

His oldest brother, Thomas John Quirk, died July 18, 1899 in Ashland, PA. His other brothers, Edwin T. Quirk who died October 16, 1961 (Memorial #18129665) and Leo J. Quirk who died August 5, 1956 (Memorial #18250872) are both buried in Beverly National Cemetery in Burlington County, NJ.
His sisters, Mary Josephine Miller who died April 30, 1970 was buried privately and Anna Marie Butler who died July 11, 1977, (Memorial #84688617) was buried at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, PA
