53 MOSES NIMS was born May 9, 1718 at Deerfield, MA and died 1791 at Conway, MA. He was the son of Ebenezer Nims and Sarah Hoyt. Moses married on June 29, 1748 Margaret Hawks. MARGARET ALLEN HAWKS was the widow of Eliezer Hawks who she married May 9, 1743. Eliezer Hawks died at the Bars, August 25, 1746. Margaret is reported as the daughter of Benjamin Allen. She died August 27, 1772.

Moses served in the military during the Colonial Wars. On March 6, 1747, during King George's War, Moses Nims provided Col. William Williams sixty pair of snowshoes he had made for the "Snow Shoe Men" company. He also served under Capt. Thomas Wells as a Sentinel and appears on the April 23, 1746 muster list. In 1756, Moses was impressed for duty with Capt. John Catlin near Albany.

In the 1771 Tax List, Moses Nims' real estate had an annual worth of £11. He owned 2 horses, 4 oxen, 3 cattle, 6 goats and sheep and 4 swine. His real estate included 9 acres of pasture, 34 acres of tillage, 5 acres of mowing land and 3 acres of fresh meadow. This land was able to produce 12 barrels of cider, 170 bushels of grain and 6 tons of hay per year.

Moses Nims wrote his will on January 7, 1791. It was probated April 5, 1791. He gave his son, Moses, £20 for four years service after he was 21 years. He gave his son Elisha all his real estate. He then divided his personal estate between Moses, Elisha and Ariel Nims.

A note about the burial place for Moses Nims. He died 20 years after his only wife. He reportedly died in Conway, a town adjacent to Deerfield. However, his will dated within months of his death begins "In the Name of God Amen. I Moses Nims of Deerfield in the County of Hampshire..."
There are many unmarked graves in Old Deerfield Cemetery, be it noted when an inventory was done by C. Alice Baker and Emma L. Coleman in 1924 for the Pocumtuck Assoc. the marker, if ever there was one, was not recorded.

Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association has a collection of Nims Family Papers on file in the Library.
