RAVEN, Va. - Mrs. Myrtle Ball Short, 88, of the Road Ridge section of Raven, went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2001.
Born in Russell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Albert Ball and Mrs. Eddie Horton Ball. She was a lifetime resident of the Road Ridge community and worked hard getting better roads and school bus runs so that her children and others could have a better education. She was a born again Christian for 72 years and a member of the Raven Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School for 50 years. She was the president of WM's for 13 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Short on May 29, 1991; seven brothers, Dewey Ball, Marvin Ball, Carnes Ball, Billy Ball, Lawrence Ball, James Ball and Willard Ball; and two sisters, Ethel Short and Francis Ball.
Mrs. Short is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Virginia Deskins of Richlands, Va., Mrs. Pansy Ball and husband, Rev. Carl Ball of Raven, Mrs. Wilma Sayers of Raven, Mrs. Carolyn Green and husband, Tom of Doran, Va., and Mrs. Shirley Ferrell and husband, Roger of Cedar Bluff, Va.; two sons, James Short and wife, Ann of Richlands and Dr. Hurley Short and wife, Bonnie of Warrington, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Alta Lowe of Elkton, Md. and Mrs. Okla Carr of Piqua, Ohio; 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Raven Assembly of God Church with Pastors Hurley Short, Joe Copolo, Max Linkous and Carl Ball officiating. Entombment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Vandy Deskins, David Ball, Max Sayers, Tommy Ray Green, James Short, Jerry Muir, Andy Deskins, Michael Deskins, Steve Deskins, Mark Deskins, Michael Short, Leonard Short, Dennis Short, Samuel Muir and Craig Ferrell.
Flower girls will be granddaughters, Donna Mann, Patsy Billock, Debbie Bailey, Lorraine Salyers, Carlene Welch, Rebecca Campbell, Tammy Smith, Beth Brooks and Alieta Helton, and great-granddaughters.
Honorary pallbearers will be the children of the late Andy and Ethel Short.
