The most important thing to Bob and Jo was family. As they raised their children, Phil and Cheryl, they lived in Southern California. Almost every weekend was spent with Bob's mother, Mary, his brother and four sisters and their families, playing cards and swimming in the pool, the kids running around and hanging out.
They frequently traveled to Texas to visit Jo's mother, Maida, and her brother and three sisters. Many nights were spent outside in metal lawn chairs talking and laughing, while churning ice cream. They would also visit Bob's aunt and uncle, HL and Marie in Missouri at HL's lake property. Everyone would pitch tents, spending the days water skiing and playing dominos.
As they continued to age, their love of family only grew deeper as they welcomed their grandkids and great grandkids. Many happy memories were formed spending time with them. Instead of taking them to amusement parks, the kids would assist Jo in her garden and help Bob with his projects.
When Bob and Jo purchased property in Valley Center, Phil, Cheryl and her husband Dan helped develop the avocado grove. Nights were spent with the grandkids by the campfire, eating chili and eggs and telling stories. They eventually moved near the grove.
At family gatherings, Bob could be found telling stories of his youth and memories of family. Jo would be found with the ladies, enjoying their company and friendship.
Bob and Jo had a marvelous life. They loved greatly and were loved deeply in return. They traveled through life as one and departed together on their 64th wedding anniversary. A true love story for two storytellers!
