Lucy Amanda Walworth Wagner was born 10 Jan 1811 in Leyden, Hampshire County, Massachusetts; she was born to John (1784- 1853) and Hannah Clark Walworth (1785-1865). She married George Amos Wagner (1809-1878), a third cousin once removed on the Walworth side, in Leyden, Massachusetts about 1831. They had 9 children: Frances Amanda, Ellen Maria, Adelia Victoria, George Homer, John Jacob, Emily Hannah, Sophia Louise, Lorenzo, and Daniel Walworth Wagner.

Her husband George died in Crawford County, Kansas at the home of their son, George Homer, on 15 Oct 1878. Amanda is found widowed and mother-in-law at the home of J.J. and E.M. Sheffield in Knox County, Illinois in the 1880 Federal Census and she removed shortly after to Nebraska with them.

She died in Holstein, Adams County, Nebraska. Her obituary reads: “Mrs. L.A. Wagner, mother of Mrs. J.J. Sheffield (Ellen Mariah Wagner) died April 7th and was buried at Morseville. She was nearly 76 years of age, formerly a member of the Baptist Church, and a woman of great patience. A number of relatives are left to mourn. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Litherland of Roseland.” -- Newspaper clipping, copied June 1960 by Vernon R. Sheffield, courtesy of Eva (Sherman) Harris. Date and name of newspaper not know. Evidently from 1887 or 1888. --- from the Sheffield-Wagner Historical Notes, Vol. I, number 8, page 42.

Amanda was my great-great-great grandmother.
