"Jerry" is the son of Joseph Brewer and Mary ("Mollie") Frazier. He first married Rebecca (Davis) Brewer. Rebecca was first married to George W. Brewer, older brother to "Jerry". Rebecca and George had 4 children when George died.
"Jerry" and Rebecca had two children, Sarah Hannah ("Babe") and Joseph Lee ("Bug"). Rebecca is buried at Old Bostick Hill Cemetery, Estillfork, Jackson Co., AL.
After Rebecca passed away, "Jerry" married Martha Jane Pogue. He and Martha had 6 children, Mary E., Della, Walter C. (a daughter), Ida Frances, Richard Harvey "Harv", and Robert McDonald. Martha is buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Plevna, Madison Co., AL.
"Jerry" Brewer was first buried at Old Bostick Hill Cemetery and was later moved to Miller Cemetery on Miller Mountain.
"Jerry" fought in the Civil War and the Jackson County war records read as follows: Emberson Brewer, Estill Fork, Ala. was born Feb. 20, 1842 at Winchester, Tenn. in the County of Franklin. Entered Military Service as Pvt. on or about Nov. 1, 1861 at Winchester, Tenn. in the 42nd, Tenn. Regt., Co. H, was captured at Fort Donelson, Tenn. about Feb. 16, and was exchanged sometime in Sept. 1862. He was released in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He re-enlisted as Pvt. in Sept., 1862 in Alabama in the 55th Ala. Regt., Co. I and continued his service until the latter part of Dec. 1864. After his capture at Ft. Donelson, Tennessee, about February 16, 1862, he was sent to Camp Douglas, a Confederate POW camp in Chicago, Illinois. He remained a prisoner for 7 months until he was exchanged for Union prisoners.
He was captured in the battle of Nashville, TN on December 15-16, 1864. He was released on February 15, 1865. He served from 1861 to 1865.
