NOTRE DAME - Elizabeth “Liz” Cullity, 94, residing in Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame, passed away peacefully at 7:30 am Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in her home. She was born February 14, 1923 in Sheridan, IN to the late Donald K. and Elsie (King) Kercheval.

On January 30, 1953 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, Liz married Professor Bernard D. Cullity, who preceded her in death on March 26, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Georgeann Welling; and brother, Donald M. Kercheval.

Liz is survived by one sister, Mariea DeVera of Tempe, AZ; three nieces, Susanne (Patrick) Lewis, Eliza (Josh) Harcrow, and Lee (Bill) Kessinger; and a nephew, Steven Horner.

Liz was a music teacher with the South Bend Community School Corporation for 10 years. She then served as Manager of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra for 26 years before retiring in 1986. Following her retirement, she continued her service and dedication as an active board member and subsequent board member emeritus of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra. Liz was also a longtime member of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Her world travels took her across the globe to places as far away as India.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Monday, July 3, 2017 in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Graveside services and burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, where Liz will be laid to rest next to her husband, Bernard. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00pm on Sunday, July 2 at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Liz may be donated to the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, 127 N. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46601
