Name found as Joseph Anton in Austrian records:
He was the first of our direct family to leave Austria. He traveled here on a ship named 'Canada' in 1882 at the age of 44. According to the manifest, he was with his 2nd wife Albertine and 4 of their children. Frank, age 18, Beatrice 4, Josephine 3, Adolph 1. I believe there was a mistake and Adolph age 1 was really Adele age 3. Adele and Josephine were twins--and I am unable to find any record of a son named Adolph in Austrian records. They arrived in New York and settled in St. Louis--shortly after moving to a farm in Warrenton Mo. Anton made a second trip back to Austria 2 years later to bring back daughters that were left behind--Bertha, Marie, Minnie, and Frieda.
His immigration records show his occupation to be a brewer. He became a farmer in Warrenton.
Anton is buried in a family plot in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Truesdale MO with 2nd wife Albertine, son Frederick P, and daughter Adele R (Rhomberg) Wigglesworth.
Anton's son Karl Anton Rhomberg, with Philomena Drexel, was born on Jun 14 1869 and died on the same day.
Daughter Mathilde also with Philomena, born Oct 6, 1874- died Feb 11, 1877.
Anton's father was Franz Xaver Rhomberg born Jan 24, 1793 and died Jun 2 1841.
His mother was Maria Regina Hofle born May 5, 1807 - Aug 8, 1874. I do have DNA proof to the Hofle family through Ancestry member Robert Luger who is my 5th cousin.
