James Wilbur Stevens, 87, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at a local hospital.
J.W. was born July 7, 1929, in Daingerfield, Texas, to Odie Washington Stevens and Annie Lou Wellborn.
J.W. attended Daingerfield High School where he was the most popular guy his senior year. He attended East Texas Baptist College ( ETBU). He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He also worked as an ironworker with Iron Workers Union Local 263 where he served as president. He loved to read the newspaper every day, and he enjoyed playing 42 with his friends at the Benbrook Community Center. J.W. was very generous and would do anything to help someone in need.
Survivors: J.W. is survived by his wife, Rebecca Marie Bare Stevens; daughter, Cheri Stevens Counts and husband, Donald; daughter, Lavonda Stevens Sanders and husband, David; granddaughters, Kristen Counts Robinson and husband, Chandler, and Karli Sanders; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews that he all loved dearly.
