Susan Maxine Powell was born March 14, 1954 in Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter of Cecil R. Powell Sr. and Myrtle L. (Gerstenberger) Powell. She graduated from Linn-Mar High School and spent many years working at the University of Iowa Hospital Schools with disabled children. Before that career, she worked at ACT, Hills Elementary School and Atrium Village. On June 24, 1972 Susan married John E. Holderness in Iowa City and together they had two children.
She had enjoyed time spent working in her flower gardens, doing craft projects, hanging out with her family; especially her grandchildren, listening to music and sharing her home with her dogs.
