BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA OBITUARY – 2019

Earl Edward Abts, 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, [2019] at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Thelma (Garner); his parents, Edward and May (Michalski); his brothers, Victor, David, and Richard; his sisters, Doris (Helms) and Phyllis (Hamer). He is survived by his brother, Joseph; and his seven children, Wayne, Joe (Lahetta), Donna Mealer (Mike), Jeff (Sue), Danny (Darlene), Mary Doss (Chris), and Carl (Michelle); 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Abts was born in Arcadia, WI and spent his life working in the metal fabricating business. He was a member of the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers and was inducted into the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Hall of Fame in Talladega. He loved fishing, NASCAR, and making his own fishing jigs and lures. He retired from AllSouth Fabricating at the age of 84. The family would like to thank Comfort Care Home Health, Comfort Care Hospice, and Home Instead for their care, attention, and timely response as his health rapidly declined. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 12, 10 a.m. at Holy Infant of Prague Church, 8090 Gadsden Hwy., Trussville. The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., interment in the parish columbarium. A reception for family and friends will follow in the parish hall. May he rest in eternal peace.
