Cony Sturgis died in Freeport, Maine March 11, 1954. He was a former resident of Ithaca.

He received his early education in Augusta, Maine. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1899.

Professor Sturgis taught in Puerto Rico and upon returning, he taught at Cornell University in the Romance Languages Dept. He had also been head of the Spanish Department at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. Early on in his teaching career, Cony Sturgis owned and operated the Sturgis Tutoring School in Ithaca, New York.

He was an author of many books, including English to Spanish and The Spanish World in English Fiction, and well over 100 articles in both English and Spanish.

Cony Sturgis was first married to Harriet Lucy Hall. She was a daughter of Willis Hall and Mary D. Gunderman. Cony and Harriet Hall Sturgis were the parents of Willis Hall Sturgis (1904 - 1905) and Cony Sturgis, Jr. Harriet Sturgis died in 1908. Secondly, he married Dr. Anne B. Butler in 1910, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mr. Sturgis was predeceased by his wife, Prof. Anne B.B. Sturgis, in 1947. After her death, he removed to Long Island and later to Maine.

He is survived by a son, Cony Sturgis, Jr.; a grandson, Cony Sturgis III; several cousins.

Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery family plot at the family's convenience.
